The basic mechanisms (what happens there?)

BPS (borderline symptoms) The abbreviation used in the text. It refers to a pattern of very intense, often fast-changing emotions, great fear of abandonment and difficulties in keeping one's self-esteem stable. The text emphasizes that this is a spectrum and not everyone experiences these dynamics the same way.

Trigger (trigger) An external stimulus (e.g. a late call, a certain tone, an Instagram like) that evokes a disproportionately strong emotional response. The trigger often activates old wounds or fears. The reaction fits emotionally with the ancient Injury, but often not to the current Situation.

Binding alarm (in the nervous system) A metaphor for how the body reacts to perceived danger in the relationship. When the nervous system registers uncertainty (e.g. by distance of the partner), it switches to an ‘emergency mode’ (similar to real physical danger). Rational thinking is blocked and the focus is only on ‘saving’ the bond – often through panic or struggle.

Proximity-distance conflict A core problem in many BPS dynamics. It describes the painful dilemma: Proximity is urgently desired, but can quickly be perceived as threatening or revenue-generating. However, distance (freedom) is immediately interpreted as abandonment or deprivation of love. There is no ‘safe place’ between extremes.

2. The internal processes (the ‘film’ in the head)

The inner film The story that the brain invents at lightning speed to explain a trigger. Usually a negative interpretation of reality, based on fear. Example: Reality = partner does not answer immediately. Inner film = ‘He's cheating on me right now / He doesn't care.’

catastrophic The immediate jump to the worst possible scenario (worst case). From a small disagreement, the end of the relationship or the total own worthlessness is immediately inferred mentally.

Self-esteem collapsing A sudden, deep crash of feeling for one's own value. When alert, the person concerned not only feels insecure, but often fundamentally ‘wrong’, ‘ugly’ or ‘unlovable’.

3. Dynamics in the relationship

Vicious cycle (fear & control) The pattern that arises when fear is to be calmed by control. Control (e.g. checking mobile phones) brings short-term relief, but prevents real trust from growing in the long term. The more controlled you become, the more dependent you become on control to feel safe.

Validation (validation) A central tool for partners (and for self-help). It means recognizing a feeling as genuine and justified, without Absolutely agree with the conclusion. Example: “I see that you are very afraid of being left (validation of feeling). But I assure you that I will only meet friends and come back (clarification of the facts).”

Co-dependence An unhealthy relationship pattern in which the partner takes responsibility for each other's feelings. One tries to ‘save’ the other or avoid all triggers, losing sight of one’s own limits and needs. The text warns against creating security through self-abandonment.

4. The tools (solutions from the text)

Regulation / self-regulation The ability to bring extreme tension and intense feelings back to a wearable level, before They act. This often happens through the body (breathing, cold stimulus, movement) rather than through thinking.

Reinsurance (vs. control) A healthy way to ask for safety. It is limited (‘Tell me briefly that we are okay’), voluntary and serves to reassure one’s own system. Unlike control, it does not require evidence or surveillance.

Reframe (reinterpretation) Actively give a new, more constructive meaning to a situation. Example in the text: Instead of seeing the partner as an ‘offender’ who wants to hurt you, you reframe the situation as a common ‘stress moment’ that you have to deal with together.

DBT / Skills Dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) is a form of therapy specifically designed for people with severe emotional instability. ‘Skills’ are the concrete skills you learn there to deal with high stress without harming yourself or the relationship (e.g. the ‘stop rule’ from the text).

“Near ‑Distance Understand ‑ conflicts in relations with Borderline ‑Symptomatics – and deal with them constructively.”

{"googlesitekit_rrm_CAow58y7DA:productID":"
"mf2_syndication":[
"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false
"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
Ein falsches „Like“ – und das System schreit Alarm? 🚨 Bei Borderline ist Eifersucht oft kein Drama, sondern gefühlte Lebensgefahr.
