The processing of real criminal cases on YouTube often moves on a narrow ridge. Not all formats are based on journalistic or ethical standards. In a specific environment of the platform, a parasocial arena has developed. Clicks act as a hard currency. Artificial indignation serves as a lucrative fuel. Real, often tragic criminal cases are increasingly being degraded to the pure backdrop in this environment. They often serve only the self-staging of the content creators.
In May 2026, an escalation was observed in the context of reporting on the Fabian murder case. This is an example of the platform's mechanisms. Within a few days, a complex mud battle relaxed. This escalation reveals how a ‘toxic perpetuum mobile’ works in the creator economy. Outrage attracts attention. Attention, in turn, generates revenue. This monetization then rewards the next stage of escalation.
We reconstruct this causal chain. The goal is a precise deconstruction of the mechanics behind the scenes.
Act 1: The original video and the illusion of control
The starting point of the dynamic lies with the creator Rafaela. She reports from the extended environment of the victim family. On the sidelines of the fourth day of the negotiations, she published a momentous video. This contained two crucial, conflict-inducing elements.
An Attempt at a Legal Barricade
First, she tried to establish a media barricade. It explicitly called for a ban on its content. Other channels should not copy or broadcast their videos live. It was also prohibited from being used in reaction videos without permission. In a YouTube environment that is fundamentally based on secondary exploitation, this ban acted as a catalyst. It challenged the contradiction of the scene.
A failed procedural formulation
Secondly, it was misunderstood in this sensitive context. She reported a CD of evidence from the trial. She expressed herself imprecisely. The impression arose that there were chat histories of all witnesses on the CD. She also explicitly mentioned witnesses who had yet to testify in the ongoing trial. This presentation was enormously explosive. She suggested a potential judicial scandal. The attention of the community was suddenly aroused.
Act 2: The Struggle for Interpretational Sovereignty and Gaslighting
The ban on secondary utilisation demanded by Rafaela did not withstand the platform dynamics. The barriers were quickly torn down. Creator Maren Giertz took up the statements. She confronted Rafaela in her own format with the procedural reality.
Correcting the facts
As it turned out, the said CD did not contain any secret advance information. These were only known voice messages. These were already played publicly in the courtroom on the respective day of the hearing. There was no legal scandal at all. It was pure miscommunication by Rafaela.
The Rhetorical Allegation of Gaslighting
The actual media-ethical conflict was ignited by the subsequent communication. Rafaela corrected her statement. However, she pointed out in a written statement that she was responsible for the misunderstanding. She argued that there was nothing to interpret in her statement. According to her, viewers ‘must only listen and be able to speak German’.
Maren Giertz sharply criticized this communication behavior. She publicly referred to the procedure as ‘guest lighting’. She accused Rafaela of shifting the blame for an imprecise wording to the audience. She demanded a transparent admission of the error. With this criticism, Maren Giertz initially positioned himself as an objective correctional authority. However, this sublime role was massively attacked in the next escalation stage.
Act 3: The Demasking - Financial Leaks and Ad Hominem War
At this point, the creator Da Vinci intervened in the action. His intervention marked a hard turning point. The conflict completely left the level of contentual media criticism. He drifted into a deeply personal confrontation. The Perpetuum Mobile was picking up speed.
Allegations against the donation model
Da Vinci initially made accusations against Maren Giertz. These were mainly related to their monetization strategies. He claimed in his stream that Maren was filming foreign material from News 5. In doing so, she placed her own PayPal address via the sender's donation link. So she diverted funds to her own account. He greatly devalued their content in terms of quality. In addition, he questioned her media expertise due to her past in telephone card-laying.
Leaking of alleged mountains of debt
However, the escalating climax was a frontal attack on Frank’s channel ‘Television Chest’. Da Vinci used claims about existential, financial internals as a rhetorical weapon. He detailed in his stream that Frank was highly indebted. He referred to alleged costs from two lost court cases. According to him, these proceedings were conducted by the creators Sabrina and Lexi.
Da Vinci publicly summed up these alleged liabilities to around 20,000 euros. He explicitly referred to a case of Lexi with an alleged claim of over 10,200 euros. He accused Frank of failing to properly service these court-tied installments.
Crossing borders on a personal level
At the same time, Da Vinci crossed verbal boundaries through massive personal devaluations. He attacked Frank's appearance. In addition, he spread rumors about his school career. That's how Frank should be intellectually declassified. Body-shaming focused on the use of terms such as ‘Ozempic-Fresse’. This was a nod to weight loss and Frank's well-known diabetes condition.
Editorial classification: These terms and depreciations are not repeated at this point to normalize them. They are cited exclusively to objectively document the derailed character of the escalation within this milieu.

Act 4: The Commercialization of Vengeance in the Heulvinci Stream
The reaction of the criticized camp impressively demonstrated the economic laws of YouTube. Outrage is rapidly being transformed into e-commerce on the platform. In a joint livestream entitled ‘Heulvinci’, Frank and Maren Giertz responded to the allegations.
Public Justification of Finances
Frank commented in the stream on the debt leaks. He indirectly confirmed that demands exist. He claimed to have offered installment payments. However, they were rejected by the other side as too low. Since he has only limited funds available on a monthly basis, there is ‘currently nothing’ for the creditors. He strictly rejected the ‘Ozempic’ allegations. He explained his weight loss instead with a stomach operation in the past.
The direct transition to product sales
Instead of seeking de-escalation, the conflict was immediately commercialized. Maren Giertz immediately offered merchandise in her online shop. Cups and jute bags were printed with AI-generated caricatures by Da Vinci. They were marked with the letters ‘Heul Winci’ and ‘Diplomhater’.
This is where the circle of toxic perpetuum mobiles closed. The traffic generated by the conflict was directly transformed into a sales area. The stream recorded more than 1,000 live viewers. Frank also used the attention to promote his own community products. He sold cups from the ‘breakfast club’ and the ‘television chest’.
The bizarre photo contest for community cups
He called on viewers to take part in a photo contest. The community should creatively stage their cups. The suggestions ranged from the idyllic mountain panorama to the placement next to dirty underwear. The dispute over media integrity had turned into a lucrative sales event. The drama served here as pure range bait.
Act 5: Meta-analysis and the question of animal welfare monetization
An external perspective on what happened was provided by the creator Sabrina (channel ‘uncensored & outrageous’). Their role is analytically highly complex. According to the previous claims, she herself is one of Frank's creditors. This naturally complicates a completely neutral view.
Selective perception in one's own warehouse
This financial entanglement explains a noticeable cognitive dissonance in their evaluation. Sabrina vehemently protected Da Vinci in her stream. She described him as a ‘fine guy’. However, his massive verbal derailments and body-shaming attacks largely blinded them out. Instead, she described his appearance as ‘objective’. This shows the typical filter bubble formation within such YouTube conflicts.
Criticism of the life coach model
With regard to Maren Giertz, however, Sabrina formulated precise media-critical points. She pointed to a blatant moral discrepancy. Maren performs publicly as a ‘life coach’. She gives online personality training. At the same time, however, she is distributing revenge merchandising against colleagues on the net. Sabrina declared disgusted that she had symbolically prepared a piece of soap to wash her mouth after consumption.
The allegation of donation hijacking in animal suffering
Sabrina's criticism of Maren's earlier monetization strategy was particularly explosive. She accused her of financially exploiting the suffering of a stranded whale (‘Timmy Hope’). Maren had been streaming news images of the incident for hours. For this purpose, she displayed her own donation QR codes.
Subsequently, she sold cups with AI-generated whale motifs for 12.95 euros. These were marked with pathetic words such as ‘hope’ and ‘gratitude’. Sabrina sharply criticised the fact that this presentation did not reveal transparently whether revenue actually benefited animal welfare. She accused her of pouring the money primarily into her own
Act 6: The copyright illusion in social networks
The entire conflict also reveals a fundamental lack of understanding of modern platform rights. Rafaela's initial ban on secondary exploitation illustrates a widespread illusion in the creator scene. Many actors believe that they can control the dissemination of their public statements by decree.
The reality of the right to quote on YouTube
However, the legal reality on YouTube is completely different. The American principle of fair use and the German citation law allow the use of foreign material. The prerequisite is a critical, content-related discussion. A simple ban in the video is legally ineffective.
The ban as a boomerang effect
Rafaela's demand therefore brought about the exact opposite. It signaled an attack surface to the opponents. In the attention economy, a ban is often framed as an attempt at censorship. Perpetuum Mobile uses such bans as fuel. It transforms the legal defense attempt into the next viral issue. The illusion of control thus leads directly to the loss of control.
Act 7: The Algorithmic Reward of Conflict
Behind the personal enemies is a cold, mathematical logic. The YouTube algorithm is not programmed for moral integrity. Its primary goal metric is to maximize user engagement (watchtime) and interaction (engagement).
Why the algorithm incentivizes toxicity
A factual, sober report generates constant click numbers. A highly emotional conflict, on the other hand, explodes in the metrics. Wild speculation, debt leaking and mutual body-shaming provoke reactions. The viewers stay longer in the stream. They write angry comments. They donate in superchats to support their party.
The financial reward of escalation
The system thus rewards the escalation financially. Higher interaction leads to a better playout by the algorithm. More viewers means higher advertising revenue (RPM) and more merchandise sales. The creators react to this production. They are radicalizing their language and their formats. They often do this unconsciously so as not to crash in algorithmic ranking. The system shapes the behaviour of the actors.
Conclusion: The Mechanics of Industrialized Indignation
The reconstructed causal chain of this YouTube drama shows no purely personal failure. It documents the precise functioning of an industrialized system. In this specific escalation environment, outrage is professionally processed.
The ‘toxic perpetuum mobile’ proves to be extremely stable economically. A failed video leads to media-effective corrections. These corrections provoke personal attacks. In the process, alleged mountains of debt and health problems are used as weapons. The resulting viewer interest is immediately capitalized. The actors use the reach to consolidate loyalty, collect donations and sell cups.
When real topics only serve as fuel for this recycling chain, the content loses its meaning. This applies to legal proceedings as well as to animal welfare. The media-critical analysis shows a bitter reality. It's no longer a question of truth-clarification or true crime. It is about maintaining a lucrative cycle. This remains in motion as long as the audience finances it with their attention.
