Personally, I think data protection is very important – but what is happening right now is more than wrong. It scares people – people would have to take their pages offline. It is tyrannized with others requesting what you have stored about them.
Yes, the 25.05 came totally unexpected and surprising like every year Christmas or like this annoying Easter, which always falls on a different date every year. Yes, the whole thing came as a surprise.
Not that there was a transitional period or there were already laws before that actually regulated the same thing and not Europe-wide, but only for Germany, but hey: That was probably new to many.
The worst thing I heard was that after midnight someone wanted to know what they had saved about him when he was on his website. For explanation only: It has only been obligated since 25.05 to compose this data and to present it on request.
So: How can you leave data shortly after 0am if you haven't been on the site yet? But this was certainly only intended to provoke and bully, as a real interest in what was stored.
That there are a lot of pages – especially blogs no longer exist, because no one really knows what you have to do to be data protection compliant and purely out of fear of the draconian penalties up to 20 million euros, which you should then pay or before the windy warning lawyers or clubs is understandable again.
But are these penalties really in the form? Yes, there are, but not for small minibloggers. These penalties are rather something for Facebook and Co. Nor is the car or house immediately seized by the data protection authority in the event of a violation, no, they will rather enlighten and help, as one becomes compliant. And only at the second violation to discuss penalties and conditions.
I read myself into the subject as well as I could. I tried to find helpful tips. Everything I wanted to do, I could do. I have covered all the points and explain why I use one or the other, in understandable words.
Of course, I could now take a lot of money into my hands, which I don't have, and get advice or have a data protection page created for a lot, a lot of money.
But I think as a hobby site that's so okay what I did and also to 90& waterproof, I hope at least. And if I don't have any money, …, well, what's up?
Have you thought and done something?
Your Sasha
