The Importance of Self-Care in Borderline Therapy
In the world of mental health, the issue of Self-care a constant companion, a gentle echo in the corridors of healing. Especially for people with an Borderline personality disorder Self-care takes on a meaning that goes beyond the everyday. It becomes a beacon amidst stormy waves, an anchor that promises calm and strength in chaotic times.
My own path to this realization was long and winding. Years passed before I learned to recognize the nuances of my needs and understand what is helpful and what is not at certain moments. Implementation is not always easy – I know that firsthand. But the resulting peace and power are like an oasis in the desert of everyday life.
Strategies in stressful situations
In stressful situations, I have discovered a place of refuge for myself: retreating into solitude to find peace and order my thoughts. This strategy is not always feasible, especially if circumstances do not allow it or if other people do not grant the used space. At such moments, it becomes extremely difficult to find the peace needed and the situation can quickly become uncomfortable – for both sides.
Self-care, however, means more than just taking care of yourself in difficult times. It's also about giving yourself a treat in good moments – whether it's an ice cream, a walk or just quality time with people who do you good. Self-care is as individual as we are. Everyone finds their own way to practice their own methods around this form of care.
Learn What's Really Important
Over the years, I've learned what's important to me, what I need in different situations to take care of myself. This realization did not come overnight. It took repetition, constant practice to be able to act better in difficult situations. In such moments, I like to withdraw to arrange everything. If I am not given this freedom, I find it extremely difficult to think clearly. This is often the case, especially in partnerships and relationships.

Final Thoughts and Hope
Self-care is a skill that I had to learn – and that each of us has to learn. It's about taking care of what you need in certain situations. Ideally, this is something that doesn't cost money, doesn't need to be procured extra, and is independent of other people.
I hope that these insights and tips are helpful for you and that you can take some of them with you.
Yours,
Sascha
