Advertising in the LautFunk publication cartel

“The mass media is brainwashing;
advertising the hammers.’ Heinz Körber (*1938), aphorist

The other day I had a video conference with employees of a large company in the advertising and marketing sector. It was about advertising on my podcast.

Basically, I wanted to cover the cost of providing the podcast and blog, but as it turned out over the course of the conversation, the podcast as I run it is completely uninteresting. The projects that are particularly close to my heart are completely uninteresting from an advertising point of view.

Only the podcast, which deals with the topic of music production from the point of view of a hobby producer, is highly interesting for advertising. Because this would be a so-called Spitz theme and there you could have a thousands click rate (Page RPM) reach from about 250 €. That means at 1000 call up to 250 €.

But we are now talking per episode and that is completely utopian by my standards, because I should best publish weekly and I can never do that. And I've been doing it for three years now and honestly, if I have 50 views in the first week, that's a lot.

The conversation always boiled down to advertising.

But I hadn't really been interested in advertising for the entire technology. But the conversation always boiled down to advertising and how to monetize it. However, I was mainly interested in using the technology to do cross promotion, i.e. to advertise other podcasts with me, and these then switch my advertising for my podcast to another podcast. This is completely automatic.

The other option that would be interesting is that you can automatically add on or off moderation to the recording and thus enter into virtually individual or current subject areas. Or to give references to other projects without having to change the original file every time. But this can be made dynamically out of the system. So I say that one week is now the moderation and moderation access and next week I do another because I want to refer to another episode or another format.

Unfortunately, we did not agree on this video call or rather conference. And I should contact again in six to twelve months, when I have reached these said 1000 calls. They gave me some tips on how I could do that. The interesting thing is, I've been making music not even professionally for 20 years now, but as a hobby musician. And I have my networking, I am completely able to write to all my contacts, which I have there, and to point out that this project is currently running and possibly invite me interesting guests.

I'm quite a jerk!

Now we come to the point that is the problem. I'm quite a jerk about self-marketing. I can't do that, I'm not able to, even if I get a lot of compliments on how great my voice is. And that I'm great at what I'm doing, but I'm questioning too much and I don't think I'm convinced either. That it is good. And if you are not convinced that it is good, then you do not advertise it.

I have now activated advertising in the blog and on all pages where the podcast is almost published, so that is on my projects runs advertising. A little bit not much. The site is not overloaded, here and there a bit of advertising works out, sometimes more less. And this currently covers the costs that I incur to provide the offers. That's just a few dollars a month, that's less than the pocket money my nephew gets. But that's perfectly okay, because it covers the costs.

As I said, I made this compromise, that I defaced the site a bit and get a little bit of money for it. I would have been willing to have a bit of advertising in podcast if I made a little bit of money with it, to stop me sometimes Equipment to buy. As is well known, this can be expensive in audio production. There are 500 € often nothing. You often pay more than 1000 € for reasonable equipment or for software or for a new computer etc... And there are so many points to consider that simply cost a lot of money.

Old newspaper advertising

I tried, on a voluntary basis, to be supported. But up to a total of 20 € nothing came around. I got a total of 22 € from two people. I was very happy about it, but the running costs are not covered. That's only part of it expected in the year. As I said, I don't want to earn from it, I don't want to get rich from it, I do it for fun with joy. Let's be honest, I don't have much else to do. So I do what I can do well and that's talking. But then I also want to be able to look for and buy beautiful new toys for this beautiful hobby, and for that I need money. And that's exactly the money I don't have much of.

I think I will try to increase the reach and popularity of the music podcast. Then to see what becomes of it. If I can make the 1000 views, okay, then there's a little advertising, if I can't make it, then don't stop. Then I have to save longer on new toys. But the fun and joy of creating new episodes for the podcast or even a new blog or beautiful videos for YouTube, nobody takes that away from me, because that's what I would do because I like to do it.

There is always air up.

Only it would be nice if I had the opportunity to develop myself further. Both technically, but above all in terms of quality. And that's just the next jump. In addition to better equipment in the audio sector, there is not so much left that I could improve. Maybe even a better preamplifier or in the video area, for example, a better camera would be an option. Also in terms of content, there is always room for improvement.

I think these are small wishes, something that everyone can understand. Anyone who is passionate about producing content. Whether you're a big content creator or a small one, those desires are there. As I said, there are various ways to finance it, either through advertising in the content or through supporters who, for example, donate or save me.

Saving is always an option that stays with me. Because at the moment I cover the costs for the provision of the platform, the website, for more it is not enough.

What do you think about advertising? And how much do you consider reasonable in this regard?
Please write it in the comments, I am very interested in it.
