Introduction:
In my previous article, I discussed the connection between the Borderline Personality Disorder (BPS) and depression. Today I am adding another, often overlooked facet to the topic: the Anxiety disorders. These mental conditions are not only limited to BPS, but can also occur independently or in conjunction with other mental illnesses, such as: psychosis and neuroses, stand.
The Subtle Nature of Anxiety Disorders
Anxiety disorders do not always manifest themselves in an obvious form. Often they hide behind everyday actions that may seem harmless at first glance, but signal deeper psychological problems. For example, checking repeatedly whether the stove is turned off may be a symptom of a generalized anxiety disorder resulting from excessive concern for safety and control. This type of behavior can resemble neurotic patterns, pointing to the complex overlaps between different mental disorders.
Personal Reflections on Anxiety and Borderline
From my own experience with borderline disorder, I know the profound fear of being abandoned. This phenomenon, known as loss anxiety, is a key feature of BPS and can lead to intense emotional reactions. In relationships, especially when both partners are affected by BPS, this fear can lead to an escalation of conflict, driven by the fear of being abandoned.

The Complexity of Anxiety Disorders
Anxiety disorders present themselves in a variety of forms. For example, some people experience specific phobias, such as the fear of contamination, which manifests itself in avoidance behaviors such as not eating food from the refrigerator. In my case, fear also manifests itself in the form of social phobia, which severely limits my ability to be among people.
When fear dominates behavior
There are situations where anxiety disorders can lead to more extreme behaviors. Carrying a kitchen knife in your purse for fear of assault is an example of such problematic behavior that can lead to misunderstandings and conflicts in public.
Fear from an evolutionary perspective
From an evolutionary point of view, fear is a fundamental emotion that serves to protect us from danger. Our brain, shaped by the conditions of the Stone Age, often reacts excessively to today's threats. This leads to avoidance behavior that is not always appropriate in the modern world. In my personal life, this manifests itself in the avoidance of everyday tasks such as shopping or making social contacts outside the digital space.

Therapeutic approaches and coping strategies
In the treatment of anxiety disorders, an individually adapted therapy is crucial. Cognitive behavioral therapy, Exposure therapy and other therapeutic approaches can help to understand and manage the underlying fears. The therapeutic process can be lengthy and challenging, as progress varies depending on the individual situation.
Completion: The Importance of Support and Self-Care
I want to encourage anyone struggling with anxiety disorders or BPS to seek professional help. Without proper treatment, these disorders can get worse. It is important to face the fears and accept support at the same time.
As with gymnastics at the step bar, getting up immediately after a fall can help to avoid long-term fears.
I wish you strength and courage on your path to healing,
Your Sasha.
