What happened to the blogs, podcasts and YouTube channels?

‘Cheap excuses are expensive.’
Erhard Horst Bellermann

It has certainly been noticed that a lot has changed on the blog or on YouTube itself. Even on Facebook, Google Plus and Twitter, everything is different. Here I want to tell you why and why all this is now as it is.

In a nutshell: There are two reasons – one is financial and the other is administrative burden.

Okay, that with the money is explained quickly. At Starto I paid 140 euros in the year and that was a good 70 euros for the package and now it comes: 70 euros for an SSL certificate, which you can also take for subdomain, because the free one can not take and so you have to take the expensive one.

The effort of using 4 individual WordPress installations with all the updates and so is already time-consuming enough and often more than annoying, because you always do the same thing on each page and sometimes 10 or more updates come over the day.

All this together has moved me to look for something new and to make a network from the outset, so I only have to update everything centrally and can do everything with one click. Ready to go.

But why is it so different with YouTube and social networks?

Quite simply: also the effort and responsibility of having a separate YouTube channel for each blog, plus a Facebook page and the whole thing at G+ and then a Twitter account and, best of all, at Tumblr and a miniblog – no. So you have to operate and control everything.

Honestly: That was always at the end after a posting about 2 hours, where I checked everything or had to correct it, because the plug-in, which made the page look great, had made funny control characters in the giant texts, which I then had to edit out in G+ and elsewhere. It's all eaten up a lot of time.

Now I have only separated the podcasts, with more formats coming on Lautfunk and there is only the monologue and rehearsal podcast. That's what it was. One more blog, and that's enough.

I'm not gonna get bogged down like that anymore. It was nice to have the pages all individually, even with the many possibilities to help shape them, but now let's make it minimal and simple. Less is more today.

What do you think of the new idea of bundling and simplicity?
