Care: What do I need?

‘The man who is too busy to take care of his health is like a craftsman who has no time to care for his tools’
Proverb from Spain

I am currently dealing with the topic of ‘care’ and ‘home care’, because I am acutely affected – be it for medical reasons – as well as in supporting everyday life.

One thing in advance: I don't need care like in the old people's home. Due to my limitations after the stroke and my excess weight, I have problems. Also, psoriasis in this combination cause problems.

Just as an example: I don't go everywhere to cream these places with the ointments and that's twice a day. In addition, the dressing must be remade twice a day, and, and, and.

I also have trouble taking a shower. I can't get into the bathtub without help. I have to be extremely careful that I do not fall, because when I lie down, then I lie down and there you need the fire brigade in the narrow bathroom to get me back on my feet.

Now it's the case that you can say you want support or you need it and then you turn to the long-term care insurance. Then it will be fun, because then you will be examined and so on.

I have this in front of me this week and I'm curious, because I did the test results on Pflege.de and it came out that I have care grade 3, that would be something, because then I can give back to my sister and my mother for all their help and above all work that they do.

Since I myself worked in the care of the elderly, I know what a struggle it was with the care levels. Now I'm curious how this is for myself and how I cope with it, because back then, when I was severely disabled or retired, I had to fight every time.

I'm 41 years old and can't do anything without help. A little budget here, and put something away, but then that was it. Shopping alone is not really possible and the Aldi is at the door. Accepting that you're so broken that you can't do it anymore is hard and I think it will be this time, too, that I need a time to sit down.

I know that every one of us can become a case like me from one day to the next and need help, but knowing it and experiencing it for ourselves is something else. If something falls to the ground, I have to wait until someone picks it up or it disappears on its own.

I was always someone who did everything alone. The apartment, the car, the motorcycle and much more. I have renovated, repaired and built. Now a lot of things just don't work anymore and I have to deal with it. It's hard to need someone to hit a nail on the wall. It's hard for someone who has always done it himself.

How do you deal with such things or how are your experiences or fears?
