Few know of me that I lived in England for a year at the age of 16 and sometimes for a few weeks or a few months depending on how I had time and how my life just went.
But how did it happen that I lived in England from such a long time, that's a pretty long story and also has a lot to do with the past in my family. At a time when our family was really turbulent and stressful, my teachers said that would be a good idea if I lived abroad for a while.
It would do me good, it would give me self-confidence and also help to cope with the stress that prevailed around me, the advantage I had was that my father's sister had married an English soldier and moved to England after a long time in Germany.
So I had a contact point where I could speak German if necessary and I was sure that I would understand myself then my cousins have lived in Germany every many years and would at least be able to understand me.
I agreed and got into the adventure and what can I say it was one of the most exciting parts of my life so exciting that I travelled to England again and again.
The good thing was that I didn't have any lessons during this period and it didn't really bother me that I was good enough at school and what was missing there was something else to appropriate for me and so I could fully enjoy the time.
Now you don't have to think that I just sat there all day in front of the TV and fed cookies no I worked there I worked in the company of my uncle, who had a welder company or metal construction there I put the EDP in order, which was of course a challenge, because I was only used to German software and had to get involved in the English-language interface and give my oldest cousin some lessons there.
I also worked for a while on a farm there I did hard field work, I got potatoes out of the ground with my own hands and this packed in 25 kg bags I know how hard this work is and after three days I could hardly walk or tie my shoes because everything hurt terrible, from one of the worst sore muscles I had my life so far.
But I was forced to speak only English there. On the field no German spoke to me shows the farmer proudly the German tractors and harvesters but we only spoke English and that was a good school because I learned to speak English but another English, an English what the people speak and not what we learn in school that only a tiny little part in England speaks.
I also got involved with music there then my youngest cousin is a very musical young woman, she is a well-known DJane there and got to know some interesting people about her, especially during the later visits, after she attended a music school boarding school.
My first experiences with illegal techno events or even big raves I made there at 16 not necessarily easy to get in there but with the birth certificate of a cousin of mine as proof of my legal age it always worked.
I have experienced a lot of great things there and learned a lot about myself and life actually everyone should have such a time in his life, where he goes almost alone to a new country and tries to get along there.
Yes, well that can be said you were still with your aunt, right I was with my aunt, but I certainly did not see her for ten years and everything was foreign to me there, all the more so since I was in a foreign country and sometimes just walking home quickly was not so, that was a big trip over the water with ships and a lot of driving.
It definitely made me a bit of an adult because, I have the feeling of being alone and I mean really being alone there experienced because, although there were a lot of people around me, the people who were most important to me and that were after all my parents and my sister were not there.
This trip or even the trips afterwards expands my horizon immensely I am today really someone who was cosmopolitan I learned, there also the strange people who I absolutely did not know helped me so easily and that is what I felt so fantastic about this experience.
For me, this was the best time in my life!
