Two neurodiverse minds – A complete creative system

“How giftedness, ADHD and different ways of thinking form an unusually productive duo”

Creative processes are rarely linear.
They are the result of experience, thinking style, perception and personality.
For us - Sascha and Sarah - an additional level is added: Neurodiversityt, which does not make our cooperation more difficult, but makes it possible in the first place.

The digression 34 High endowment: Blessing and burden

Description:

Hello and welcome to a new edition of the digression, the podcast in which I, Sascha Markmann, delightfully and almost always deviate from the actual topic. Today I decided on a topic for which I have not yet found a perfect title. Perhaps “The Hidden Treasure – Living with giftedness“ best.

Giftedness – a blessing and a curse at the same time. Living with extraordinary talent is often marked by unique opportunities and challenges. On the one hand, opportunities open up that remain closed to most people; On the other hand, social isolation and high expectations can become a burden. Finding the balance between these extremes requires not only intellectual strength, but also emotional resilience and social skills. Thus, giftedness is not only a gift, but also a complex task that enriches and demands life in many ways.

In this episode, I'll tell you why I often don't carry my education and skills outwards and rarely talk about them. My story begins in the regular school, where it quickly became clear that something is different with me. An examination at the health department found that I was highly gifted and the normal schools were not suitable for me. So I found my way to Waldorf school, which, then and now, offers other opportunities to children with special needs.

Despite my talent, I repeatedly encountered challenges, such as dyslexia, which made learning difficult for me. Through targeted support and smaller classes, I finally found my way and experienced a turning point in sixth grade that changed everything.

My further education led me to various schools, a vocational training as an electrician and several degrees. But despite my successes, I preferred to put my light under the bushel and hide my abilities. Experiences of bullying and resentment shaped me and made me become cautious.

In this episode, I reflect on education policy, the individual needs of children, and my own experiences that have shown me that not every extraordinary talent automatically leads to a successful and fulfilled life.

Let's dive together into the world of giftedness and the challenges that come with it. I hope you find my story interesting and realize that it is important to promote and support children in their uniqueness.

I would like to thank you for listening, and I am happy if you turn on again next time, when it says ‘Die Abschweifung’ or another format here on Lautfunk, the publication cartel.

Your Sasha.
