This year is probably the year of farewells in my life. About 10 months ago, Amy died. Two months ago my father and now Fuxi, who accompanied me for 11 years.
Fuxi became the mascot of the Fellmensch blog. For many years until the end, it was his image that gave the page and channel on YouTube a face with the image.
Fuxi was really old. 18 years is already a good age and he had been seen for months. The care of the coat no longer wanted to be right, so you always had to help. The teeth were still there, but no longer good and so on – right up to the shaky pace of balancing. Yes: Fuxi was an old cat.
In the video about the story of Fuxi, you can learn more about his life, such as how he came to me. He also slept with me until the end, just like Amy. They have always sought closeness and extreme.
I had talked to my mother and sister about the fact that I think he won't be with us for so long and then they said that you would look at him too, that he's just an old hangover and that he's leaving life so slowly. And so it was.
As much as he did a few years ago, so little has happened in the last few weeks. Sure, as you get older, you do less, but the last few weeks he had really only slept. He was just up to eat or go to the bathroom.
But these were all things he still liked to do, because he loved cheese, which he also got every morning (low lactose, of course, this is naturally the case with many varieties). In addition, he got a little sausage and he was happy.
He enjoyed it when I went to bed and just put my hand on him, talked to him and then we fell asleep. That's how it went in the evening and sometimes in the afternoon. I'm not that young anymore, I can do that too.
Army had been doing this for over 20 years, so I knew it wouldn't take long. But I didn't expect this to happen so suddenly.
It was early in the evening, when he got up after eating and some rest, went to the litter box, did his thing, buried it and came back to the bedroom, but lay down on the floor. That was something he hadn't done in a long time.
Then after a while I picked him up and put him next to my head as usual after we cuddled up. He then got up, walked towards the door and wanted to surrender (the noise is certainly known as a cat owner). And when nothing came, he went under the bed.
So 30 or 60 minutes later I looked, there he lay quite relaxed, breathed quite calmly and evenly. I just thought this way: "Oh, something new."
Then at about 10:30 p.m., I heard a miserable lamentation under the bed. I've never heard anything like that before. Not as powerful as usual when a cat makes noises – rather hoarse and weak-breasted. Just miserable, so I got goosebumps.
I looked immediately and there I saw the last twitches of Fuxi and then there was nothing more – no movement, no breathing, only how the bladder emptied and that silence afterwards.
The other cats also looked excitedly towards the bed and then made a big arc around this. They are still doing so, especially below.
Now there was the problem that he was so far under the bed that I didn't get it and I don't have the means to get him out. I spent the night in the living room because I didn't want to sleep on him when he was dead under the bed.
So around noon came my sister and mother. We then dismantled the bed so far that we came to Fuxi and collected it. Of course, he was already completely stiff, which did not make the whole thing easier.
There were many tears, because Fuxi originally came from my sister and there he is now again in her garden at the house. He got a nice place.
The thing that makes it so difficult for me is the fact that he had retired and I could not be with him and made him feel that who is there, because if I was not feeling well, he came to me and cuddled up to me.
On June 19th at 10:30 p.m., Fuxi passed away. When he was born, I don't know. I only knew when he came to me. He was about 6 years old. So he was about 18 years old.
I will never forget him, because it was a beautiful 11 years with him.
Your Sasha
